« on: February 02, 2020, 11:06:41 am »As I wrote in my top mysteries and thrillers list for 2019, Edith Maxwell is my Queen of the Cozy. Her Country Store mystery series is my absolute favorite. I love her Quaker Midwife and Cozy Capers Book Group series as well.
I am into Carlene O'Connor's Irish Village series a lot. Plus Sheila Connolly's County Cork series. Oh, and I can't forget to mention the Vicki Delany series I'm reading: Year Round Christmas mysteries and the Sherlock Holmes Bookshop mysteries.
A couple of new series I have enjoyed is the Movie Palace mysteries by Margaret Dumas and Nicole Asselin's Ballpark Mysteries.
I'm holding you personally responsible for increasing my to-be-read shelves! I've read a couple of books by Sheila Connolly and Vicki Delany but I don't think I've read anything by Edith Maxwell, Margaret Dumas or Nicole Asselin. I may have read something by Carlene O'Connor - I'll have to go check my shelves of keeper cozies.
In the meantime, I've ordered Edith Maxwell's MULCH ADO ABOUT MURDER.
The MULCH ADO ABOUT MURDER is from her five book Local Foods mystery series. I only recently acquired all five of the books in that series but haven't yet gotten around to reading them.
I know if you read the Country Store mysteries you will love them like I do. The series lead, Robbie Jordan, kicks as much butt as Jack Reacher - with way better food! I turned one of my co-workers onto the series and she can't get enough of them now.
And I will be glad to take the blame for getting you to read some of the authors I like that you aren't all that familiar with. More sales for them!

Welcome to the forums. I am sorry to say that I haven't read your work before but I'm definitely going to add the Highland Bookshop Mysteries books to the list of series I need to check out. I love series set in Ireland and Scotland and when they are set in and around a bookstore or library, so much the better!

I'm a big fan of David Baldacci as well. I haven't read everything he's written but I've read most of it. I have a few books that I bought but haven't gotten around to reading yet.
I loved the standalones The Winner and True Blue, but I love his series books too.
One of my trivia team partners is a HUGE fan of the author and when he found out (cause I called him to tell him!) that I had gotten not one, but TWO Baldacci advance copies to do reviews, he was soooo jealous.

By now, I just look at the lists of nominated books for whichever awards are being given out and think, "Well that's nice for them." And then I go back to reading what I read anyway.

Having just read the list of nominees for the 2020 Edgar Awards, I've never been more aware that I am seemingly out of step with the majority of mystery readership.
I own exactly 1 book amongst all the nominees. And I've yet to read that one so far. There are three other titles I want to read. Not that I feel the need to be one with the crowd but damn that's a lot of nominees that I've never read, or in some cases, even heard of before now.

I've never read any of Andrew Grant's books so I don't know how it will turn out.

With the news that author Lee Child has quit as the author of his Jack Reacher series and handed the reins of the character over to his brother, what do you think the legacy of his work will be?

If you read the series, will you continue reading it? Usually in this situation the continuation comes about because the author has died not retired. I'm a couple books behind in the series but I do have hopes that things will be great going forward.

Speaking of finding authors from them being featured in Mystery Scene, there's a new article on the homepage of the website on Con Lehane.
He's completely new to me but I'm quite interested in checking out his Murder at the 42nd Street Library series now. I'll probably head to the library in a bit to see if they have the book on hand and if not, I'll have them transfer a copy to them so I can read it.

I always read Jon's columns, they are informative and interesting no doubt. I just don't buy these books. I'm already busy enough with reading the regular prose novels as it is.

I've seen that book on the shelf at my local Barnes and Noble. I will probably wait until it comes out in paperback. Lovegrove also wrote the first couple of Firefly prose novels that have been published recently.

I haven't read the books but since my mom was a huge fan of the Harry Potter series, when I found out that Rowling was Galbraith I bought her the first book.
But I don't think she ever got around to reading it.
I have not read the books or seen the show.
By the way, Cinemax announced yesterday that they are getting out of the original series programming business.

I don't read any reference books myself. I concentrate on the books rather than books about them. Just my preference.
