Welcome and General Discussion / Re: Collecting? Watcha got?
« on: June 10, 2019, 05:32:05 pm »
I'm not really that much of a collector when it comes to books. I simply like to keep the books I buy after I've read them.

However, I do end up passing some on to other reader friends of mine, or donate them to the library.

Rare stuff or treasures? Nope, not really. I do like my signed copies of books when I go to book signings however. Those stay with me.

About the only thing I have that would qualify as OLD is a complete book of Sherlock Holmes stories that my dad had and gave me. The book is at least 50 years old but it is more of a sentimental treasure because it was my dad's rather than a potential financial windfall.

Welcome and General Discussion / Re: POLL: Favorite Mystery Category
« on: June 10, 2019, 05:28:24 pm »
Another tough question.

I am not sure I can pick an answer for this one because my favorite mystery category likely depends on the type of book I'm reading at a given time. I like a number of authors from each sub-genre so it really makes it impossible to choose just one.

I will say that historical would probably rank lowest of the listed options though.

I can't really decide on which to pick in the poll.

I started with Encyclopedia Brown, had the entire blue hardcover set of The Hardy Boys and just freaking loved The Three Investigators.

The only Nancy Drew novels I read were the paperbacks published, I think, in the late 80's or early 90's where she was teamed up with The Hardy Boys. Oh, and I've read a couple of Nancy Drew series in the comics that were recently published. One was with the Hardy Boys but the other one was a solo adventure.

I'm sorry but I've never read Trixie Belden.

If forced to make a choice I will probably say The Hardy Boys because "The Shattered Helmet" is my favorite story from all of the books I've read from any of the characters.

But it really is quite a toss up.

Mystery Scene Magazine Issues / Re: Summer 2019 - Lori Roy #160

I haven't gotten my issue yet but once I do, I'm sure I'll have something to say. And it's always nice to save the issue since one of my reviews will be in the magazine.

I'm not all that crazy about the heat of Texas, but choosing between a book convention or a trip to a place I never have had the slightest interest in visiting, I'd choose the book convention.

Yes...I'm single.  ;)
