I haven't heard of Ovidia Yu before now, so I'll have to look into the books and see if they interest me. Of course, then if they do I'll be buying the books (or looking to see if my local library might have the books).

Kristopher Zgorski's Bolo Books blog had their Fall APB article go up this week, spotlighting 10 mystery/thriller novels to watch out for.

One of the books he spotlighted was the new book in J.M. Redmann's Micky Knight series which features a lesbian detective. Since I hadn't heard of the series before I asked him to give me a little more information because I was intrigued by the premise of the book he spotlighted.

After he gave me the brief overview of the series, I really want to start at the beginning and check this series out in full.

I kind of feel like I'm talking to myself on the board as of late but I ended up having to miss the William Kent Krueger  signing I mentioned in the first post.

I'm trying to do a double signing on Saturday September 28th. Author Peter Colt has a new detective series that saw the first book 'The Off-Islander' published recently. He's doing a signing at Titcomb's Bookshop on Saturday afternoon.

After I go to that, I've got to then head up to the New England Mobile Book Fair store where Hank Phillippi Ryan and Steven Cooper are doing a tandem event for their respective new books The Murder List and Valley of Shadows.

Besides reading Volumes 1 and 2 of the For Better or For Worse: The Complete Library collections, I finished David Baldacci's Long Road To Mercy. That's the first book in his Atlee Pine series. I got that from the library to read when I received the ARC to A Minute To Midnight which is the follow up book to Long Road To Mercy. I finished that one as well and I'll be working on my draft review to submit to the magazine!

What I'm Reading / Book Signings anyone?

I know that as a reader, I love going to signings of authors that I like. A signed book is a treasure that stays forever in my book collection.

I saw Hank Phillippi Ryan a couple weeks back on the second event of her tour for "The Murder List". She's always a thrill to see and she even mentioned me and the reviewing I do for Mystery Scene as an example to illustrate a point she was making in her talk. (There's video of it, so I have proof! LOL)

I just got back from a book signing at a library two towns over from where I live. The author is Jack Matthews and the mystery he was promoting was his debut novel "Arte Perdida". He put on an engaging talk about the process of researching and writing the story and I picked up a copy of the book and had it signed.

This week, I'm headed to see Brad Meltzer on his tour for his kid books, but I'm going to have him sign a couple of his thrillers and a comic trade paperback he wrote after I buy the kid book as a Christmas gift for my nephew. (I checked with the store and they said he'll sign any of his work at the event.)

I've also got plans to see William Kent Krueger and Kyle Mills when they hit stores within driving distance for me.

So does anyone else here have any book signing events in their future? Do you like to go to these events? And for those who are writing the books, how much input do you have on going out on tour to promote?

I got my hands on the new Lorna Barrett Booktown mystery "A Killer Edition" and powered my way through it rather quickly. Pretty enjoyable read and continues my love of the series.

I finished the Cornelia Kidd novel "Death and a Pot of Chowder". Sadly, what was intended to be the first book in the Maine Murder series is the only book we'll see. The author, real name Lea Wait, passed away a few weeks ago.

I really enjoyed the book and would have loved to see where the story would've gone next.

Thanks for your interest in Perseverance Press (note: only two Rs in the first word--I shouldn't have picked a name many people misspell!). My earliest books, from the 1980s and early 1990s were published by PP. In 1999 I joined forces w/ John Daniel Publishing, so many of the subsequent 80+ books are listed as PP/JD (if you're searching under the publisher name). It might be easier to check out our website:

I finished reading an advance copy of the Christmas themed novella collection "Christmas Cocoa Murder". It has three stories in it. They are written by Carlene O'Connor, Maddie Day and Alex Erickson.

I really enjoyed it and put a review of the book up on another book related site.

Full disclosure, I received the advance copy from author Maddie Day.

Lea Wait, the author of the Mainely Needlepoint and Antique Print mystery series under her own name and the Maine Murder series under the name Cornelia Kidd, passed away over the weekend.

After my first post I got busy and forgot to check back, sorry! I'm not quite sure whom I'm replying to, but thanks for your replies.

About my first & only mystery, DEATH SPIRAL, Murder at the Winter Olympics--it was published in 1984, so it's not really available now. It was based on the murder of a Russian defector, and the old skating rules (school figures, etc) so it's really out of date!

I find editing others' work much more rewarding than writing my own, so I hung up that hat. We only publish established authors, so their writing is already at a high level. (The Duke of Edinburgh compared writing to self-flagellation, and I agree ;-). I still have to write catalog copy, etc., which is hard enough.

It's been 20 years now since Perseverance Press and John Daniel & Co. joined forces, and we've published over 80 mysteries. We're planning to continue as long as we can.

Meredith, thanks for getting back to the board and for the information. I just popped over to eBay and looked to see if I could find a copy of your book. And yes there is a few, so I'm looking into picking it up! Doesn't matter if it is out of date with modern day stuff, I am just interested in checking it out.

And I'm going to have to look up Perserverance Press to see your catalog of titles to see what might strike my fancy there as well.
