What I'm Reading / Re: My latest read is...

I'm just starting COLD WIND by Paige Shelton. I meant to start it yesterday but I got a headache and I decided to pass on reading at all last night.

Was there a full moon last night? A blue moon? That might have been the only night in about a year that neither one of us read a book!!

BTW, I'm flying through THE NIGHT AGENT. You were right - sooo good!

You will love the Matthew Quirk book.

That might be my next one. I started reading Robert Barnard's A HOVERING OF VULTURES last night. Unfortunately, my husband put ona movie he'd been wanting to see that I REALLY did NOT want to watch. Unfortunately, it's a big screen and he likes the volume up loud, so I got sucked into the movie in spite of myself. So frustrating! I don't like it when a whole day goes by and I haven't read a book. And SNOWPIERCER is really not my kind of movie. Oh well.

I will still read this one soon: https://www.publishersweekly.com/978-0-684-19625-1

So NIGHT AGENT wins the draw for today! Thanks!

What I'm Writing / Re: New Releases!
« Last post by Becke Davis on January 18, 2021, 04:29:09 pm »
Happy New Year and good riddance to 2020! Not that I’m all that impressed with 2021 yet, but I’m convinced it is going to get better. And not just because I have the first book in a new series coming out, but hey, I HAVE THE FIRST BOOK IN A NEW SERIES COMING OUT!

Sorry…I’m a little excited. LOL. I’ve been working on this cozy mystery series for a while now, and I finally get to share it with my readers. It is both exciting and a little bit terrifying. What if the fans of my paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and witchy books don’t like the cozy mysteries? Oh wait…there are cats in them. I think we’ll be okay.

A couple of years ago (yes, that’s how slowly things work in publishing) my agent suggested that I try my hand at a cozy mystery. “What, no witches?” I said. But then I had an idea sparked by my real life experiences with a local animal shelter, the one where I got my cats Harry Dresden and then later, Diana. I’ll talk a bit more about that on my blog soon. But that idea led to my three book contract with Berkley, and I’ve been working on the books ever since. The second book in the series is finished, and the initial revisions just got turned into my editor, Jenn Snyder (who I love, I might add). I’m currently hard at work on the third one.

But the first book, Furbidden Fatality, is coming out on February 23rd, so I am gearing up for all kinds of giveaways, promotions, and even (gulp) a live event on Facebook on release day. (I’ve never done one of those before. What if no one shows up?) The next newsletter will contain a giveaway for my newsletter folks ONLY* so be sure to open that one right away! In the meanwhile, I hope you will preorder the book from your favorite local or online bookstore.

*Let me know if you want to sign up for Deborah's newsletter, or if you are interested in signing up for the giveaway.

I subscribe to Deborah Blake's newsletter. She has her first cozy mystery coming out in February, and she just announced a giveaway:

"We’re officially in the countdown until book release day! Furbidden Fatality is coming out in six weeks, on Tuesday, February 23rd. I’m starting to get really excited. I can’t wait to hold the book in my hands. But the print copies aren’t going to be back from the printer until the end of January. Booo. On the bright side, I got my publisher Berkley to agree to put on a sweepstakes giving away e-galleys of the book to TWO lucky winners. Yaaaayyyy!

Here’s the link to enter: *Let me know if you want to enter. I'll send you the link!*

But wait, there’s MORE!

As a reward for being wonderful and signing up for my newsletter, I’m going to be giving away some swag to one random person on my newsletter list. If you’re the lucky winner, you can choose between a cool tote, a notebook, or a fun mouse pad.

I hope you’re as excited about this new series as I am, and that we can have some fun while we’re waiting for the first book to come out. Mark Friday, February 19th on your calendar, because I’m going to be doing a Facebook Live event on my author page at 8PM EST. There will be even more giveaways, some Q&A, and who knows what else. I hope you’ll join me there.

Thanks so much for taking this journey with me. I appreciate each and every one of you.

And don’t forget that publishers (and authors!) love preorders. It is part of how they determine if a book is successful. So I’d love it if you’d get one today (or ask your local library to order one…)

What I'm Reading / Re: My latest read is...

I'll look forward to reading your review! It's been cold and kind of gloomy the last few days, so I've done quite a bit of reading. I finished PRETTY AS A PICTURE by Elizabeth Little in less than 24 hours, then went on to read SPEAK NOW by Margaret Dumas the following day. And yesterday I was back to John Dunning - I finished THE HOLLAND SUGGESTIONS this morning. I enjoyed all of those books.

I'm not sure what today's book will be. I have another Margaret Dumas and another John Dunning, plus Matthew Quirk's NIGHT AGENT. My daughter gave me another book she just read - GOODNIGHT BEAUTIFUL by Aimee Molloy. I just realized I have another Ruth Ware book buried in that pile, too - THE TURN OF THE KEY. I've read all of her others and liked them, so odds are I'll like this one, too.

I finished the James Grippando legal thriller TWENTY last night. I'll be submitting a review of the book to the magazine later today.

PRETTY AS A PICTURE by Elizabeth Little

I thought I knew what I was going to read next, but then my daughter gave me a book and said, "Read this!" I'm about a third of the way into it, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Nothing much has happened yet, but there are intimations of things to come. The main character is definitely quirky.

I finished it last night (got very little sleep, but I had to finish it!). I liked it a lot. Torn between reading another John Dunning oldie or another book from the ever-growing waiting-to-be-read pile. Considering SPEAK NOW by Margaret Dumas or DEVIL IN A HOLE by Charles Salzburg.
