Edith's "One Too Many" story in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine's last issue was really good. And so much darker than her other work.

Thanks, Jay. I do like to explore darker themes in my short stories!

Yay! I have several issues of Malice Domestic short story collections, but I didn't have 12, 13 or 14. I found copies online and just ordered them, as well as Fish Nets, the Guppy Anthology.

Edith, this is from your website: "“The Stonecutter,” possibly Edith’s favorite piece of short fiction, is a murder story of middle-aged romance gone wrong in an increasingly dark New England fall. The story first appeared in Fish Nets: the Second Guppy Anthology, an anthology of crime stories (Wildside Press, April, 2013)."

What was it about "The Stonecutter" that made it a favorite of yours?

Those books won't arrive for a couple weeks, but I'll check back in to this thread after I get a chance to read them. Meanwhile, I've been going through bins and boxes in the garage to see if I could find any old Ellery Queen mystery magazines. I didn't find those, but I did find an issue of Mystery Scene from 2013.

Edith, I'm looking forward to reading your stories as soon as I get my hands on them!

I still want to read some more garden mysteries and I will - AFTER I finish the Maddie/Edith books.

Meantime, I brought home a couple of garden mysteries after visiting my local Barnes & Noble store today.

NIGHTSHADE FOR WARNING by Bailey Cattrell

and

TILLING THE TRUTH by Julia Henry (this was the only book they had by this author)

Totally unrelated to garden mysteries, I also brought home the "first in a new series" by Lee Hollis, "A Desert Flowers Mystery" about the Palm Leaf Retirement Village. I haven't read anything by this author and I admit, the cover and title drew me to the book. It's called POPPY HARMON INVESTIGATES

I was at my B&N today and MURDER AT THE TAFFY SHOP was on the shelves there.

Yay! Hopefully they will still have it at my B&N by the time I get there!

They had it and now I've got it! I was disappointed they didn't have any of the Edith Maxwell titles, though.

Welcome and General Discussion / Re: RIP Sheila Connolly

I stopped at my local B&N today. They had the paperback edition of Sheila's KILLER IN THE CARRIAGE HOUSE so I picked it up.

And the County Cork mystery novel FATAL ROOTS showed up in the mail today.

Yay! We were just heading out to B&N around lunchtime when we passed our son, daughter-in-law and grandkids on their way home. So we turned around to meet them at home. We're going to head out again soon.

Yay! Doesn't he (or possibly she) look like Birdie? Every time I see the book covers I think of this kitty.

And, I should have mentioned this earlier - doesn't Edith have fabulous book covers??

*bangs head on desk* All along I've been spelling it "Birdie" when it's actually Birdy. Sorry about that!

I've been pushing hard to read the books in the Local Foods and Country Store series, and I've neglected this one! I just realized MURDER AT THE TAFFY SHOP is a Barnes & Noble exclusive for one year (it was published in March). My local B&N store is closed for the day but they HAVE reopened, coronavirus-wise, so I can go there tomorrow. I hope they have a copy in the store!

You can always look it up online to see if they have it the store. Or just call the shop before you leave to go there.

That would be the logical thing to do, but I'm not logical when it comes to books! My son and daughter-in-law and grandkids are on a short camping trip, so my husband and I have had some quiet reading time. Book stores are calling!

Edith's books always have great cover art.

I don't follow the Save Our Cozies page on Facebook. But I follow Edith's two fan pages (under her name and Maddie Day's name) as well as the Wicked Authors group page.

I used to follow a lot of author pages and author groups, both on Facebook and on the internets, but I have trouble keeping up with them all AND reading the books I want to read. One reason it gets harder is that I keep discovering great new authors - I mean authors who are new to me!

I haven't read this series yet. I'm working my way through the Country Store and the Local Foods series, making pretty good progress with those. At this point I want to finish all the books in at least one of those series before starting another one. I do want to read these, but I have a stack of Edith's books in my waiting-to-be-read-urgently pile right now!

Thanks, Becke. It's not like books spoil with age, LOL!

LOL, far from it! I have quite a collection of vintage books - like wine and whiskey, books only improve with age!

CHRISTMAS COCOA MURDER is available in print. It has novella length stories from Maddie, Carlene O'Connor and Alex Erickson.

Yay! I found another way to insert an image! I'll go back and try putting in book cover images this way.

Do you all follow Edith and other cozy authors on the Facebook group SAVE OUR COZIES?

Maddie posted this earlier today:

Maddie Day shared a link.

Kim Davis does it again on her Cinnamon, Sugar and a Little Bit of Murder blog - she made up the orange scones recipe from Nacho Average Murder! Her review: "delightful...intriguing mystery... cohesive, entertaining read!" We're giving away a copy of the book to a blog commenter.

I haven't tried sharing images before, so wish me luck. One of my favorite things about the Country Store mysteries is Birdie, the "chirping" cat. My cat Casper used to do that. Birdie looks like a cat I had back in high school, and Birdie also looks a lot like a neighborhood cat who visits us regularly.

Not having the best of luck sharing the photograph. I finally got it to the right size but it's still not working. I'll give up for now and try again later.

I'm reading GRILLED FOR MURDER, since I finished Book One earlier this week. I'm going to try to read the other two books of Edith's over the weekend. Maybe three books, if I can get the Taffy Shop book at B&N.

Let me try to insert the photo of the Birdie-clone cat in my neighborhood. I think it's the right size now. Fingers crossed!

I totally forgot about Julia Henry's Garden Squad mystery series. You can read about HERE!

Thanks for the suggestion! I haven't read those and they are right up my alley. I'll see if I can find any of them at Barnes & Noble tomorrow!

I have a whole stack of garden-related mysteries to be read or re-read. I've been focusing on Edith's books this month.

What do you all (I know Jay and I aren't the only ones here) think about alternating months with a featured topic and a featured author? Not that you have to feel obligated to read the books we're talking about, but for my part I want to read as many of the books as possible. Maybe we can carry garden-related mysteries into July?

Or would you rather switch to a different topic - if that's the case, what would you like the featured topic to be?
