Title: Giving Books as Gifts?
Post by: JRob on December 04, 2020, 03:00:28 pm
Anyone making a point of giving their fellow book lovers some new reading material as gifts this year?

I am giving books to a co-worker and one of the people on my trivia team. Two people are getting gift cards. And two of my cousin's kids are getting four books apiece.

I believe one friend is giving me a book as a gift this year.

What about everyone else?

I always get my grandkids a couple of books, and the only thing on the Christmas list I gave my husband were books.

And the only thing on the list my husband gave me was books. My son and daughter gave me wish lists, and their lists were mostly books, too. One thing I like to give as a Christmas gift is the IDEAL Christmas books my grandmother always had.

My parents were mystery lovers so they were easy to buy books for. My niece loves LISA JACKSON books so I usually send her a book store gift card so she can pick the books she wants. Lots of good books to give this year!

I did follow through on my original post. I gave a co-worker a book and a gift card. I gave another co-worker a gift card.

And my trivia team partner loved the David Baldacci book I gave him.

As for me, my friend Ann gave me Paige Shelton's COLD WIND which was a great enough gift all by itself. But she had another literary surprise gift for me as well. It seems she was sneaky and reached out to Edith Maxwell online and I received one of Edith's author mugs that she signed as well. That was a shock gift to say the least. Coolest gift I've gotten in a long while!

What a great surprise! I gave my grandkids books, and they received two boxed sets - Amelia Bedelia and Humphrey the Hamster. Both my husband and son received the new Obama book, and my daughter-in-law received the new Tana French book and several books related to her job. My son had requested a couple economics related books which I got him, and my daughter had requested a couple books including PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK and a manga, VENUS IN THE BLIND SPOT by Junji Ito.

I received the Barnes & Noble book of the year: WORLD OF WONDERS, which looks really interesting

I also got a couple mysteries - I'll tell you about them as I get to them. :-)

Great picture! Will you actually use the mug or will you save it for display?

I received a non-book gift that I'm excited about - a card game called DEATH ON THE CARDS. The box says it is "A card game inspired by the works of Agatha Christie." I'm not sure how well this will work, since I'm the only one in this household who reads her books.

I don't like any kind of hot drinks so I'm probably just going to save it for display. I'm looking for a case that I can put it into, like they do for collectible baseballs.

You'll have to let the board know how it goes.
