I'm halfway through my first book in this series - STRANGLED EGGS AND HAM. I like it a lot and will probably stay up until the wee hours to finish it.

I got a jolt when I read the first page. My daughter was - and still is - a big fan of the Backstreet Boys, and their late manager was named Lou Perlman. Of course, Maddie's character is female and NOTHING like the real-life person, but the coincidence of the names hooked me right away.

I also was interested to read that Maddie is one of three sisters - the same as I am, and the same as my daughter-in-law is.  We're all very lucky to have sisters in common!

By the way, I'm normally not a big fan of pancakes, but this book is making me hungry for them. We have a very good place in Eugene called OFF THE WAFFLE - I'll have to check if they have reopened again after closing because of social distancing. Edith/Maddie - if you're ever out this way, I highly recommend Off the Waffle. And if you're in the Chicago suburbs, the best place for pancakes is Richard Walker's, especially the banana pecan pancakes. Yum!

I'm all caught on the Country Store series myself. At least until NACHO AVERAGE MURDER comes out. I've pre-ordered my copy so I should have it pretty close to the actual release date. I'm sure that I'll pretty much burn right through that once it is in my hands.

I'm a big fan of blueberry pancakes myself. But I'm a syrup snob. I only use actual Vermont maple syrup on my pancakes. :D

This is my favorite series from Edith/Maddie and I'm so glad that I "discovered" it. I've also turned on a few of my friends to the series as well.

My brother (who lives in Vermont) has made me a maple syrup snob - I don't have it often, but when I do have it I want the real thing!

There's a novella that's set after STRANGLED EGGS AND HAM in the book CHRISTMAS COCOA MURDER and features Robbie Jordan in as you might've guessed, a holiday mystery.

And I just had the last of my VERMONT maple syrup this morning.

----------------

Is the novel only available as an ebook? I miss out on a lot of novellas I'd like to read because I killed my Nook a few years ago. Ereaders are cheaper than they used to be, but since I prefer to read book-books anyway, I haven't replaced it. Now if it's available in paperback. I'll definitely order it!

One thing I forgot to mention is that I enjoy the setting of this series, too. I've never lived in Indiana, but my brother (the one in Vermont) used to live in Madison, Indiana and before that, he lived in Brookville. We were living in Cincinnati at the time so it was a pretty short drive to go for a visit. I think both of those towns are in Jefferson County, but I used to visit Brown County a lot when I was a kid. My grandfather's brother and his family lived in Columbus (not to be confused with Columbus, OH), right on a small lake. I loved going there!

My mail just arrived and the mailman brought me FLIPPED FOR MURDER! Now I just have to read all the books in-between this one and STRANGLED EGGS & HAM.

I'm having fun reading FLIPPED FOR MURDER, book one, after already reading some later books in the series. When characters are introduced - including Birdie, the cat - I get a kick out of recognizing them. I'm nearly finished with this book - it's been a busier than usual day, but I'm sure I'll finish this within a few hours.

I'm glad I started at the beginning of the series when I got going. And I loved it right from the start.

I've got books arriving faster than I can read them. No sooner did I finish FLIPPED FOR MURDER, than the mailman brought me the second book in the series, GRILLED FOR MURDER.

The weather is gorgeous today - warm and sunny with a nice breeze. Yesterday was sunny and, as we used to say in Chicago, hot enough to fry an egg on the top of your car.  My son and daughter-in-law gave my husband and me each a comfy outdoor chair for Father's Day and Mother's Day, and today I put my chair to good use. I had company while I was reading - a neighbor cat who looks like Birdy-the-cat stopped by and hung out for awhile. My cats pointedly ignored him. My daughter came over for awhile and we social distanced in the back yard. She got a couple pictures of the Birdy-cat. I'll share them as soon as she sends them to me.

I haven't tried sharing images before, so wish me luck. One of my favorite things about the Country Store mysteries is Birdie, the "chirping" cat. My cat Casper used to do that. Birdie looks like a cat I had back in high school, and Birdie also looks a lot like a neighborhood cat who visits us regularly.

Not having the best of luck sharing the photograph. I finally got it to the right size but it's still not working. I'll give up for now and try again later.

I'm reading GRILLED FOR MURDER, since I finished Book One earlier this week. I'm going to try to read the other two books of Edith's over the weekend. Maybe three books, if I can get the Taffy Shop book at B&N.

Let me try to insert the photo of the Birdie-clone cat in my neighborhood. I think it's the right size now. Fingers crossed!

Yay! Doesn't he (or possibly she) look like Birdie? Every time I see the book covers I think of this kitty.

And, I should have mentioned this earlier - doesn't Edith have fabulous book covers??

I don't follow the Save Our Cozies page on Facebook. But I follow Edith's two fan pages (under her name and Maddie Day's name) as well as the Wicked Authors group page.

I used to follow a lot of author pages and author groups, both on Facebook and on the internets, but I have trouble keeping up with them all AND reading the books I want to read. One reason it gets harder is that I keep discovering great new authors - I mean authors who are new to me!

*bangs head on desk* All along I've been spelling it "Birdie" when it's actually Birdy. Sorry about that!

I've got an extra day off this weekend because of the holiday so I'm hoping the book arrives before then so I can read it with the three days of rest.

Huh - I have no idea how to insert a pic, or I would give you the real Birdy! I tried dragging one in, but that didn't work. If you can tell me how, I will try.

Anyway, I so much appreciate the support and cheers from both Jay and Becke this month. I'm delighted you love my stories and are willing to share them with others.

All my best, and much gratitude,

Edith/Maddie

Edith - Is there a photo of your original Birdy online someplace? If not, send me an image on Facebook Messenger and I'll share it here for you.

Also, thank you so much for being our very first FEATURED AUTHOR!
