Modern Mystery Movies
« on: May 05, 2020, 09:28:11 pm »
The most popular movies right now are superhero movies, which really disappoints me because I’m a huge fan of psychological thriller and mystery films. Back when Hitchcock was around, these types of films would be made almost every year, but now they are few and far between. I was just curious as to if there were any movies from the last few years that would qualify as “mystery” films?

Hmm. Not sure how far back you want to go. Some good mystery/thriller movies:

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED
MALICE
THE PRESTIGE
SHUTTER ISLAND
GONE GIRL
MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS
PRIMAL FEAR
SHATTERED
DECEIVED
BLINK
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
THE EDGE
THE GOOD LIAR
COLLATERAL
IDENTITY
UNBREAKABLE
THE SIXTH SENSE
WHAT LIES BENEATH

This year's movie KNIVES OUT is definitely an old-fashioned mystery movie. Directed by Rian Johnson. With Daniel Craig as the drawling Southern detective, and Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette and others. If you liked DEATHTRAP or CLUE, you'll love this.

I loved KNIVES OUT, especially Daniel Craig's character.

My husband and I saw a really good mystery movie tonight. It's both a "modern" mystery and a vintage classic. We saw the modern BBC remake, but there's an old B/W version, too.

I saw that. I wasn't all that impressed by it.

Maybe I was just in the mood for it. I'd seen the original years ago, too.
