So I really appreciated this article. I would add a comment about libraries. They are the best bargain in town. As a former librarian, I'm well aware of this. I encourage everyone not to spend the money for a hardcover book but borrow from the library. My current novel THE INFERNO COLLECTION was published in hardcover by Five Star/Gale. It is being widely ordered by libraries throughout the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Some friends and relatives have purchased the mystery/thriller from Amazon, B&N or Borders. I tell everyone, ask for it at their library instead. It might make my publisher unhappy, but at the price of hardcover mysteries these days, it seems a smart thing to do. Also, don't forget about Friends of the Library Book Sales! It's a wonderful way to stockpile books you want to read inexpensively.
